| The role of the organization advisor and management consultant shifts
to more specialization, offering total solutions and sharing in both
successes as failures.
From data of the AMCF (Association of Management Consulting Firms): "The reason for consulting is first and formost to enhance and
grow earnings" The former British consultant Fiona Czerniawska elaborated on Management consultancy in the 21st century: o value creation only happens when consultants clearly focus on certain markets and also develop their knowledge and competencies in their direction. o generic consultancy in a specialized field is as good as dead - 'generic consultancy is just old wine in new bottles' (Cees-Anton de Vries - Twynstra - speaks regarding this subject rather from a double change in orientation: 'from specific systems to generic systems and from generic services to specific services.') o squarity of the circle: new organizational models that
reconcile specialization with scale. Following IBM'er Larry Prusak everything evolves around: o 'networks and communities in organizations as the core capital - the key variables' o 'a new governance model' - in the beginning of the 21st century the emphasis will be on a governance model based on socio-capital o 'knowledge' - the importance of the development of knowledge and interaction as core processes in organizations will increase dramatically o 'new C&C paradigms' - the traditional command and control-paradigms do not function any more - the extreme individuality of most employees is one of the most important elements that need to bend to "community" In the past an specific expert advice sufficed together with helping to think about the development of an organization. Today, external advisors are used less if they are not affected by the end results. A successful approach, therefore, is to have the advice, implementation and integration done by the same company. This requires a different consultancy organization than it used to be. And there is the added advantage that this leads to specialization of the offered solutions and consultancy, enabling you to make use of relatively small and flexible, customer focused organizations. |
